When given an awkward empty space in the middle of CU's campus, what opportunities are there?
Proximity to UMC means opportunity for space to eat lunch or study.
Proximity to Arts building and the Design building brings opportunity for an outdoor creative space or classroom.
The environment surrounding the site was unbalanced in terms of the amount of concrete, both on the ground and in the buildings.
How would it feel to break out of that concrete?
I took inspiration from the broken path outside my house. What if that dirt was replaced with sky?

This reminded me of something. It's almost as if I created a canopy mimicking a tree, shade with fragmented sections of light peaking through.
I wanted to strengthen the resemblance of my structure to a forest canopy by utilizing wood slats to for the structure and dividing walls.
The result was a structure built to accommodate individuals, duos, small groups, and whole classes all at once. Because of its location on campus, there are a variety of spaces to eat, study, meet with friends, draw, or even have a small class activity outside.
The front four, outer sections are for pairs or small groups, while the smaller back two are for pairs or individuals.
The large middle section is can be used by larger groups for possible performances or occasions when smaller arts and design classes hold class outside.
There are benched seats along the walls in each section.
